Seestadt Symposium 2024 Day 2

Date: Sat 19 Oct

Times: 10AM-2PM

Location: Maria-Tusch-Straße 22, 1220 Wien, Österreich

Organiser: Wiener Bildungsakademie

On Saturday, October 19th, the Seestadt Symposium 2024 continues and the connection between art and environmental conservation will be at the heart of the program. Following the opening remarks that will kick off the day, there will be a presentation by Christian Kaiserseder from the organization TI Nachhaltigkeit, focusing on environmental protection within Austrian Social Democracy. This presentation will provide insight into how political movements and sustainability intersect and work together to address climate change.

Afterwards, the artists who have worked within the framework of the Turning the Tide project will present their works. Among the international artists are Jenny Marketou (Greece), Kamila Chomicz (Poland), and the Dutch artist collective Dear Hunter. Additionally, local Viennese artists Anny Wass, Paul Kitzmüller, Daniel Böswirth, and Daniil Sukhov will present their works created during their residency in Seestadt.

A particular highlight of the day will be the conversations with artists Kamila Chomicz and Jenny Marketou, led by Dr. Liz Gardiner, an expert in socially engaged art. These discussions will offer deep insights into artistic practice and how art responds to topics like the environment and urban development.

Additionally, the project partners of Turning the Tide will introduce themselves. During the partner presentations, the main organizations supporting this Europe-wide project will be showcased: Artit (Greece), the Urban Culture Institute (IKM, Poland), Intercult (Sweden), and Fablevision (Scotland). These partner organizations bring diverse perspectives and approaches to fostering artistic innovation and sustainability in urban spaces.

Following the artistic and thematic presentations, there will be an opportunity to visit the outdoor installations. As parts of the program will take place outdoors, appropriate clothing is recommended.

The event will be held in English and offers a comprehensive insight into the intersections of art, conservation, and sustainable urban development.
