Philippa Tomlin
Based in: Scotland
Supported: Glasgow Urban Lab
Philippa Tomlin is a multidisciplinary artist working across drawing, textiles, installation and participatory practice. Her work is deeply rooted in place, ecology and community wellbeing, using gentle creative processes to support reflection and connection.
Through Turning the Tide in Renfrewshire, Philippa worked alongside local residents to explore relationships with rivers, landscapes and changing ecologies. Her approach encouraged moments of slowing down, observation and shared making, inviting participants to reconnect with their surroundings through creative attention.
Phil’s practice centres care, inclusivity and accessibility, creating welcoming spaces where people of different ages and backgrounds can engage with environmental themes. By working collaboratively, she supports participants to articulate how climate change is experienced in everyday life, transforming personal insights into collective learning.
Turning the Tide enabled Philippa to situate her local work within a broader European dialogue on water, climate and cultural planning – strengthening her practice through exchange and reflection. Her contribution demonstrates how small-scale, attentive artistic encounters can build awareness while nurturing wellbeing.
Phil continues to develop community-based projects that weave together ecology, creativity and social connection. Her work offers quiet but powerful reminders of our shared responsibility to place, inviting care, curiosity and collective imagination in responding to environmental change.
