Tina Eskilsson, a Sweden-based artist, has chosen to focus on water as the central element in her artistic practice for over three decades. Her fascination with water stems from its multifaceted nature and the many different interesting aspects of it that she gets to work with, offering her endless possibilities for exploration.

Water is essential for all living beings, yet it also holds the potential to be dangerous and even deadly. Water is increasingly becoming a political power factor, as clean drinking water is crucial for our prosperity. As the climate change we face leads to rising sea levels, unpredictable weather patterns and extreme conditions, water continues to play a central role.

As an artist, Eskilsson draws inspiration from the aesthetic possibilities water provides, often creating interactive water installations that allow her to involve visitors and viewers on a tangible level. Her aim is to reach people beyond the traditional art institutions, hence communication and a connection with broader audiences is what she’s really interested in.

Participating in the “Turning The Tide” project resonated deeply with her, and she has a keen interest to participate in more similar initiatives in the future.

For Tina Eskilsson’s project, water was taken from the part of Mälaren that connects the lake with the Baltic Sea. The drops were placed on different levels during the day.

The installation with big water drops involved people passing by, and especially children who wanted to help and participate.

During the presentation, the installation sparked meaningful discussions about the environment and the water situation in Stockholm and around the world. Many selfies were taken, with the view of the Royal Palace in the background and people mirrored upside-down.

One of the most important parts of the installation was that the beautiful drops could suddenly burst when you least expected it, almost like an explosion.
