January 8, 2025

Are you a Greek-based artist passionate about leveraging art to address pressing environmental challenges in waterfront cities? Through this unique residency brought to you by Artit, artists based in Greece will have the chance to contribute to a transdisciplinary dialogue and create tangible works of art that amplify local voices and raise awareness about climate issues.

Artit is a vibrant research and tech organisation dedicated to promoting social change through art. By fostering collaboration between artists and local communities, Artit creates opportunities for creative expression that address pressing social and environmental issues. The organisation is committed to engaging artists in participatory projects that encourage reflection, dialogue, and action. In addition to its on-the-ground initiatives, Artit leverages its digital platform to provide a network of opportunities, connecting artists with a wider community and offering resources to enhance their projects. As part of its broader mission, Artit is also a key partner in the Turning the Tide project, where it supports artists in exploring the role of art in addressing climate change and climate justice.

Turning the Tide is an innovative European project that harnesses the power of art to spark conversations and drive action on climate change and climate justice. The project is implemented in Austria, Poland, Sweden and Greece. By collaborating with socially engaged artists and local communities in the four waterfront cities of Vienna, Gdansk, Stockholm and Evia, TTT aims to explore the role of art in reshaping the narrative on climate issues. Now, it’s time for Evia to welcome artists and engage them creatively in this participatory art project. The local residency in Evia will last for three months, giving artists the opportunity to:

The selected artists will work full-time for 30 days, spread across a three-month period (from March 20th to May 20th, 2025). During this time, they are expected to conduct research, create their artwork, and present it at the final conference and exhibition in Chalkida, Evia, which will be held from May 14th to 16th, 2025. The artworks will also be showcased on the project’s website and social media channels, offering a unified platform for artists to share their perspectives with a global audience.

The artists will have the opportunity to attend international meetings and webinars before, during, and after the residency to receive feedback and guidance on their work. In addition, with the support of the Artit curator, they will participate in educational roundtables with the local community in Evia, helping them familiarise themselves with the area and gain a deeper understanding of the impacts of the recent storms and floods.
