Zoe Lakides
Artist in Residence
Based in: Sweden
Participated in: Evia International Residency
Zoe Franzén Lakides is an artist and performer of Swedish, Australian and Greek origin based in Stockholm, Sweden and is a graduate of the Stockholm University of the Arts. Her work has been featured in theaters and performance spaces around Sweden and Spain. Zoe has her background in acting, mime, dance and circus which makes her resourceful and courageous.
She has a precise language of movement, a drive and a playfulness in her creations that is often transmitted to an audience. She has solid experience of working both in an ensemble and individually. As an artist, she always wishes to reach out to an audience with a broad and urgent repertoire. She finds joy and pleasure in telling stories through physical movement of the human mind and processes such as thoughts, feelings and dreams.
Although the physical expression does most of the work, she also often incorporates text in her performances. Languages have always been of great interest to her and she has acted in Swedish, English and Spanish. However, as a mime and physical performer, she is never limited to a target group in a certain country, but can express herself to a broad audience worldwide.

Physical performance and sound
“On May 1st you didn’t handcraft a wreath. You wanted to let the spring flowers be.”
This work-in-progress explores the emotional responses of individuals on the island of Evia as they witness changes in their local environment and landscape. The monologue draws from careful observation as well as generous conversations with residents, reflecting on how shifts in the natural surroundings impact their sense of place and their ways of navigating transformation.
The physical movement in the piece is inspired by the imagined experience of a being -perhaps a tree- planted in a setting that no longer feels familiar or native. Through this lens, the piece examines themes of belonging, displacement, and adaption.
