Turning The Tide 2024 – open call for residencies in Gdańsk for local artists

March 21, 2024

Would you like to be part of our groundbreaking artistic initiative aimed at solving the climate crisis in coastal cities? We invite artists from Poland to apply for an artistic residency in Gdańsk. We also invite Ukrainian citizens currently residing in Poland to participate. We look forward to receiving your applications by April 1, 2024.

Turning the Tide (TTT) is an ambitious artistic project and transdisciplinary dialogue aimed at creatively responding to the specific threats posed by the climate crisis in cities located on the waterfront. The project aims to engage local residents, amplify voices that have not yet been heard, and raise awareness of climate issues.  Five partners are involved in the TTT project: Intercult (Sweden), Artit (Greece), Wiener Bildungsakademie (Austria), DEAR HUNTER (Netherlands), and the City Culture Institute (Poland), in collaboration with Fablevision Scotland and the River//Cities network.

ARTISTIC RESIDENCY IN GDANSK FOR LOCAL ARTISTS

We invite Polish artists to apply for an artistic residency in Gdańsk. We also encourage Ukrainian artists currently living in Poland to participate in the residency.

We invite artists working in the fields of socially engaged art, environmental protection, or coastal climate issues.

The artist residency for artists from Poland (and Ukraine) will last three months, during which time the selected participants will be able to focus on cultural mapping, artistic research, and the creation of a work of art, which will be the final result of the residency and presented at an online exhibition.

LOCAL URBAN LABS

Artists selected for the three-month artistic residencies will participate in Local Urban Labs (LUL). Through workshops, meetings, and events organized by LUL, the selected artists will explore and deepen their knowledge of topics related to the project (social justice, environmental and climate issues), presenting their ideas and artistic concepts during the online residency, as well as supporting artists selected for international residencies.

The results of the local artists’ residency in Gdańsk will be compiled and presented on the TTT project website and social media.

All participants in the artistic residencies organized as part of TTT, both local and international, will meet during regular digital webinars aimed at accessing and using information from cartographic maps prepared by Dear Hunter, one of the project partners.

REQUIREMENTS

TTT invites professional artists from various backgrounds and artistic disciplines, including visual arts, performance, and multimedia.

Artists are expected to actively engage with local communities, supporting the creation of meaningful connections and cross-sector collaboration. We welcome applications from individuals at any stage of their career who can fully commit to the program of events and co-create the LUL social program.

COMPENSATION

In exchange for participating in the project, artists selected for the local artist residency will receive compensation in the amount of €3,700.

Those interested in the local residency in Gdańsk (May 6, 2024–August 3, 2024) are invited to submit their applications via the link below by April 1, 2024.
