Open Call for Local Artists in Stockholm

February 17, 2025

Intercult, lead partner of the European project Turning the Tide (TTT), invites local artists to apply for a 3-month residency in Stockholm. Do you want to be part of our cross-sectoral initiative addressing the climate crisis in coastal cities through art? We welcome artists working with socially engaged art and dedicated to social justice, environmental protection and coastal climate issues as well as art as participatory methodology in urban development.

The local residency will last for any number of days over 3 months, allowing time for research about the area, interaction with local residents, inspiration, production and display of an artwork.

DESCRIPTION OF THE RESIDENCE

Artists selected for the 3-month residency will participate in workshops, meetings and events organized by Intercult and will explore and deepen their knowledge of the project’s themes (social justice, environmental and climate issues, and participatory art).

Visit this link to learn more about the Residency’s theme and areas of interest in Stockholm HERE.

The results of the local residency will be presented physically live at the end of the residency, on the project digital exhibition and social media. The artists should be available for online meetings before, during and after the residency for feedback and follow-up of the process.

REQUIREMENTS

  • TTT welcomes professional artists from various backgrounds and disciplines, including but not limited to performing arts and multimedia.
  • Only artists located in the Stockholm region are eligible for the residency.
  • Artists are expected to actively engage with the local community, fostering meaningful connections and collaboration.
  • We welcome applications from artists at all stages of their career who can fully engage with the program of events and the artistic process.
  • Good knowledge of English is required.
  • Previous experience in projects focusing on nature, ecology or socially engaged art is an advantage but not a condition for participation.

Reimbursement

Selected artists will receive a fee of SEK 20 000 to cover costs during the residency.

The final amount paid to the artist will be subject to deductions based on the national tax rules in Sweden.

If you are interested in the local residency in Stockholm (1/4/2025-27/6/2025), please apply via this link no later than March 5, 2025.

About the project:

Turning the Tide (TTT) is an ambitious EU artistic project of interdisciplinary dialogue that aims to creatively respond to the threat of the climate crisis in coastal cities. The project aims to engage local residents, amplify unheard voices and raise awareness of climate issues in coastal cities. Through collaboration in and between four cities, TTT uses a cultural planning methodology and works with socially engaged artists. The project is an international experiment exploring how artists can contribute to the climate change narrative and exploring climate justice. The TTT project includes 5 partner countries – Intercult (Sweden), Artit (Greece), Vienna Education Academy (Austria), DEAR HUNTER (Netherlands) and Urban Culture Institute (Poland) in collaboration with Fablevision (Scotland) and River//Cities Network.
